Ice Cream Days

Living in Britain means I don't see all that much sun ( I am becoming increasingly worried about the subject of my blog these days...  'Weather Reporter' wasn't really what I was initially going for). So Summer and all things related to it,  excite me more than they would most. Ice Cream especially, being something that excites me more than it should. Giving that we only get about four months a year where you won't catch hypothermia if you eat it, I tend to jump at every Ice Cream opportunity I get. Whenever we drive past a local family, owned Ice Cream Parlor I am aware of the car speeding up slightly, trying to avoid the question that everyone knows will inevitably escape my mouth. "Hey that looks great! Let's go". There is very little that you can do once the question has been put forth.

I have absolutely no idea what is going on with my hair here. I do appologise.

Jannettas Gelateria is an award winning Ice Cream parlor set in the heart of St Andrews. I have been there many times before and am never disappointed by the glory that is their desserts. This time I indulged in an Elderflower Sorbet and it was fab. No regrets there. Thank you Jannettas.

What I Love: Haim

It doesn't get much cooler than these three. Trust me.

I remember a few months back (when my obsession for Haim was still new and fresh and nowhere near the level it is at now) Alice, Mara and I parked ourselves proudly in front of our computer screens waiting for Haim's tickets to go on sale. Only to find out they were sold out and the site was malfunctioning. Depression is an understatement. Needless to say next time we will be seated and ready days in advance.

There's something about these three. Their unique sounding vocals and arrangement aside, I think it has to do with their lack of caring what others think. They are self acclaimed 'wierdos' and naturally don't fit in with the 'Carly-Rae-Jepsen Cool' image. They are forever themselves and of course, that is why they are so loved. I haven't even started to awe over their fashion sense yet. Probably just as well as I may have to dedicate a whole other post to that topic...

Charleston, SC

You know when you go somewhere, and you just wish you could transport everyone you know to be with you so they could experience it too? Well that's Charleston for me. My photographs don't nearly do it the justice it deserves. To say it is one of my favourite cities is an understatement. This place is so beautiful and magical beyond words. The houses look like the Grayson's house in Revenge (for those of you who didn't watch that show just think mansion) and the streets are overflowing with blossom from the blossom trees. While it's history is sad, present day Charleston is very much a happy place to be. To live in Charleston one day would be great. Of course to achieve this goal you would have to have made a small fortune but hey, never say never, as the trusty Beliebers of this world would say.

The weather whilst being here was unbearably hot. Not wearing any form of frizz control was a huge mistake on my part. They were possibly some of the hottest temperatures I have ever experienced, so black clothing was not an option. With that in mind I chose this gorgeous summery number to sport for the day. This dress by Dahlia is one of my favourites for summer. The cut and material are very forgiving and make for great 'tea party' wear. The colours too. I am not much of a one to wear yellow (the word 'scared' comes to mind) but I find the stripes very doable. For those of you who haven't already I would highly suggest checking out Dahlia for dresses and other fanices, as they haven't let me down yet.

So leave your cold behind, we're gonna make it to the beach on time

Dressing for a warmer climate is far more enjoyable than dressing for a colder one. There is no need to incorporate a coat in to every outfit you wear or put on tights with every dress or skirt. You have more choice. I tend to take full advantage of that fact when in hot climates. Floaty dresses, short shorts and endless sandals are at the ready, and after blowing off the mothballs they have accumulated whilst being in my closet, I wear them until they have holes. Dear Britain, how about sunny weather all year round, eh?

These photographs were taken at my time in Folly Beach. I saw this mini salon and had to incorporate it in this post in someway, despite the fact it couldn't go with my outfit less. It's quirky things like this that made Folly for me. You don't turn a corner and expect to see a bright pink Flamingo and mini salon standing in front of you, but it certainly comes as a welcome surprise.

Folly Beach ,SC

So to continue with the 'don't you wish you were here' American travel posts, here we have my favourite beach in the world. Folly Beach located on the coast of South Carolina, near Charleston. Every building and street looks like the set for a movie, with all the rickety-half-falling-down shacks and charming retro cafe's and shops, it's a wonder it hasn't already been scouted for a movie set. The locals too! Everyone had that permanent beachy look, and as I walked through crowds and crowds of tanned, blonde people, I began to feel rather out of place with my pale white skin and red hair.
                                                                                             ***
Our hotel room had the most beautiful view overlooking the peer and beach Folly is so famous for. And when I wasn't splashing around in the sea (it literally was as warm as bath water) I enjoyed sitting out on our balcony and people watching (I promise you not the creepy kind). On the last night we stayed an outdoor cinema screen was set up on the beach beside the pear. Crowds of people were lounging back on deck chairs whilst watching Sky Fall and listening to the sounds of the beach. It just looked so perfect.
Everyone at Folly looks like they had just been cast in 90210 or Gossip Girl and they were all as friendly as could be. The beach had Lifeguards too, equipped with their ubiquitous red board shorts and bikinis.  I have decided I would love to be a Lifeguard at Folly, the only set back being I can hardly swim to save my own life, let alone someone else's.

Lupie's Diner

For anyone visiting the US anytime soon, there is one thing in particular that I would recommend you do. To visit a proper retro diner. The scruffier and more worn the better. They can be about as American as it gets, and if done well the food is actually great. You are always guaranteed a hearty (and highly fattening) meal served by a friendly face. The decor inside is usually really worth the visit too. With things like blow-up chillies, umbrellas and bicycles lining the walls it was certainly random to say the least.
                                                                                             ***
The main attraction of small diners of course being the food. Everything is doubled in the size you had imagined and it all has a homely feel to it. My absolute favourite thing the do over here is to serve ice tea in old marmalade and honey jars, it is just the cutest thing.
I, myself indulged in a veggie burger and slaw and Oh my word was I glad I did. Enough said I think. As you can see food photography is not my strong point by any means.
