25 Facts About Me

I realise that while this is my blog and I'm the one who produces it, it doesn't really say too much about me. Obviously if you look at every post individually and take notes or something (please don't) you would be able to figure out a few things about me. But it is often the silly and quirky things about a person that makes them who they are and are most fun to read about. These random things often go completely unknown. I have seen this done a lot lately on blogs, youtube etc and really enjoy reading and learning more about some of my favourite bloggers. So (you didn't see this one coming) I thought I would write a '25 Facts About Me' Post of my own. Enjoy!

P.S I would love to read any other of these posts if you have a blog and have done one. So link it in the comments box below and I will be sure to check it out.

1.  I love cats. I know this seems pretty mainstream at the moment, but since before I can remember I have had them and adored them.

2. When I was much younger I was a 'vegetarian plus ham'. Whenever a waiter came over they would have to verify that the dish met my strict dietary needs.

3. I used to seriously want to be a professional Ballet dancer up until a couple of years ago. I would dance around the house in pointe shoes claiming that I was 'in training'.

4. I have a very unknown and slightly embarrassing obsession with the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit at the moment and I have no idea where it came from.

5. I am a complete fail when it comes to texting and social media. My friends know that if they need to get a hold of me, text someone I'm with.

6. My nickname at school was 'Hermione' for a while. It really annoyed me until I realized this is Emma Watson we are talking about.

7. However I have no other nicknames. My name is rather hard to shorten.

8. I have played violin since I was about 6, but still am of a beginner level.

9. I would kill for any accent other than my own.

10. Popcorn is a really bad weakness of mine. If it is in front of me, I cannot stop eating it until it is gone or taken away from me.

11. I really enjoy skiing and hope to one day be a chalet girl for a while (this has nothing to do with Ed Westwick I swear...)

12. I am 5'8" and have been for a while. I stopped growing pretty early.

13. I am really bad with violence in films. I have to turn away otherwise I feel horrible.

14. Once I met James Franco at a music camp in America. It was one of the most
random things ever.

15. I think I prefer savory food to sweet food. But then again chocolate...

16. Cold weather is my favourite, I really can't handle extreme heat.

17. I know I have mentioned this multiple times before but I AM GOING TO SEE TAYLOR SWIFT IN 2 WEEKS AND I AM SO EXCITED.

18. Which leads me on to say that I am a massive fan of Miss Swift. As are my friends. We are kind of like an embarrassing group of fan girls whenever her name gets popped into conversation.

19. I probably drink about 4 cups of tea a day on average. I am a bit of a granny in that sense.

20. Spelling is not my strong point. Spell check is my bff.

21. I love murder mysteries. Both reading them and watching them, with tea and a cat on my lap of course.

22. This is fact number 22. So this fact must be dedicated to Taylor. I know all the lyrics to all her songs. Except from Sad Beautiful Tragic. That song is too sad.

23. Actually I know the lyrics to a lot of songs. I pick them up pretty fast.

24. I hope to be able to speak pretty fluent french one day but aaah that involves learning it...

25. I found it pretty hard to write this post. Turns out coming up with interesting things about myself is harder than I thought!

A Style Mosaic - 2013

2013 has been one of the most exciting years for me so far. And starting a blog has had a lot to do with that. I am so glad that I was inspired to create this, one bored June day. It has allowed me to write (one of my passions) on a regular bases, explore the world of photography and make new connections with interesting people. A Style Mosaic is only 7 months old, but in this time I have shared a lot on this tiny space on the web. We (my blog and I) have gone to America and back, seen a few trips to London, and embarked on countless day trips to dainty places. Looking forward to 2014, I hope to continue to post content on here, however an eventful year exam-wise may mean posts are slightly sparse. Please feel free to email me with any post requests or questions at a.style.mosaic@gmail.com. I promise to stick with it though! Even if it does mean late nights of blogging. Thank you to all who have read my blog even once, it excites me far to much when I get page views. I hope you all have a very happy new year and wish you the best for 2014.

America and Other Things.

I absolutely love having a blog. It is easily one of my favourite things to do. Photography is increasing becoming so too. And it's great because the two go hand in hand. However a lot of the photographs I take and places I go, end up on a flash drive, in the bottom of a drawer somewhere, never to be seen. So I decided to make this post just to give these interesting little somethings the exposure they deserve. And while these things are totally random and don't really tie in with my blog, I hope you will find them fun and interesting. As I did seeing them.
                                                                                ***
All these photographs are from my time over here in America. So for any American viewers, posting things like a Fire Hydrant will seem utterly mad and worrying. But for those of you who are not from the USofA you will share my inexplicable excitement at anything from over here, Hydrants included.
Whilst here, we visited a small town called Black Mountain. The pictures from there speak for themselves, so I won't attempt to ramble on and explain the place itself as I will inevitably end up embarrassing myself, as always.

Inspiration and Ideas x

I just thought I'd quickly share with all you lovely bunch a few of the things I have found myself in awe of lately. These are all small things that have made me want to (for lack of a better word) copy whomever created them. I know it sounds cheesy (I am partial to a bit of cheese) but it really has been the small things lately that have been making me smile and be inspired the most. I hope in turn these things inspire you too. So....from left to right...

  • Kitty Gallannaugh - A photographer by day and god by night (or is that day and night?). Her photographs all have the same dreamy, whimsical feel. Her pictures are just so current and cool and have been inspiring me a lot lately.
  • Emily Humphrey - Her prints are so innovative and em.. gorgeous! This pressed flower one in particular caught my eye and got me thinking about how pretty pressed flowers are. We may have a possible summer project in the making here...
  • Hello Giggles - I think in my short time running this blog I have already mentioned Zooey Deschanel about four times. She is clearly well known for her acting roles and red carpet appearances, but not so for her fantastic web creation. Hello Giggles is adorable, feel-good, fun and fabulous and you need to check it out.
  • Florence Welsh's House - I think it was a couple of issues ago now, that Vogue featured exclusive photographs from the interior of Florence Welsh's house. Her taste is so unique and makes so much sense when you see it. I fell deeply in love and am now thinking of hiring her as a personal interior designer.
  • Hair Ribbons - I just find them so elegant and girly. After having seen some gorgeous hair styles including them, I was inspired to try my hand and wearing them too. I find that link really helpful.
  • Rob Ryan - Between his beautiful words to his equally as beautiful drawings, Rob Ryan's work gives me more inspiration and ideas than most. I especially love his paper cut-outs!
I hope you discovered something new and now have some new thoughts and ideas to help inspire you. x

Good Morning Lovely

I am not a morning person. I tend to resemble a sloth coming out from a six month hibernation or Gollum emerging from a cave. However I do cherish my mornings, they mark the beginning of a new day. My mornings are usually spent lounging around and putting off actually getting ready. I like to do this lounging around to music. Enter my morning playlist. Equipped with a series of hand picked tunes intended to wake me up and put me in a good mood. Giving that I have to wake up at such an ungodly hour, I like to keep it simple. These tracks all have a similar mellow sound to them. Anything too loud would send me crawling back to that warm, comfy bed of mine. So without further ado, here are the songs featured on my 'Good morning lovely' playlist:

 Fleet Foxes- Mykonos

Photo from here

This song had me hooked upon my first hearing. It's quirky, almost completely unidentifiable lyrics make for easy listening, perfect for mornings. Listen to Fleet Foxes here.

Katie Herzig- Jack and Jill

Photo from here
The unique vocals teamed with minimal instrumentals are what makes this song so utterly morning worthy. I first heard this song on the beauty that is Pretty Little Liars and have listened to it over a hundred times since. Listen to Katie here.

She & Him- Never Wanted Your Love

Photo from here
My love for this song might be mainly due to the fact that I have the biggest girl crush on miss Zooey Deschanel and all the fantastic work she does. But crushes aside, this is a genuinely uplifting song and a great way to start the day. Listen to She & Him here.

Alex Goot- Lightning

Photo from here
This is easily the most feel good song around for me at the moment. It is guaranteed to put a smile on my face no matter what. Alex Goot's dreamy vocals and sweet lyrics send exited shivers down my spine every time. A MUST HEAR. Listen to Alex Goot here.

Ingrid Michaelson- You and I

Photo from here
Ingrid's delicate voice is just perfect for morning listing. This is possibly one of the sweetest songs I have ever heard. It is just so optimistic and feel good, making me want to sing and dance with joy every time. Listen to Ingrid here.

Radical Face- Welcome Home

Photo from here
I'm starting to find it almost annoying, how often I find myself listening to this musical jem. The clever build up to the chorus excites me still. The only down side to this track is that it's hard to listen to without images of the new Canon camera dancing around your head. But if you can put up with that you'll love it, I promise. Listen to Radical Face here.

Noah and the Whale- Now Is Exactly The Time

Photo from here
If I get to the end of my playlist before I'm running late and embark on my dash out the door, hair a mess, coffee thermos in hand combo, I will end my morning with this. I love Noah and the Whale. They have an effortlessly cool sound to them and seem like genuinely nice, laid back people. Listen to them here.

Things that make me Smile :)

I love smiling. I'm not blessed with a particularly great one (it looks like more of a toothy grimace than a smile) but I feel that smiles have the ability to lighten up a room. A smile can make a day, lift a mood or even just make someone else smile too. My good friend Molly and I decided to make a list of happy things, things that make us smile. So here is mine:

  • Cats. I just love cats. Real ones of course, but anything else cat related always makes me smile too. I find them ridiculous and clumsy, much like myself. It is possible my love for cats stems from the fact that we have these things in common. Or maybe it's just because I find them adorable, Either way, cats definitely make me smile.

  • Photography! Ever since I got given a good camera for my birthday I have been inseparable from it (taking it to the corner shop for no reason at all other than because I can inseparable). I am not the best at photo-taking at all though. In fact most of my photographs look like they have been taken with a flip-screen phone. But I do really enjoy editing and taking pictures.

  • Macaroons. Hmmm these beauties have the ability to turn me from grumpy out of my mind to cheery and smiley. Some coloured foods can look tacky and artificial but macaroons manage to look sophisticated and pretty. If I could own a macaroon shop or factory or village I would. Ideas, ideas.

  • Taylor Alison Swift. I know it is a tad cringey to add a celeb to my 'Things that make me smile' list but mine would not be complete without her. I have been obsessed with Taylor ever since her first album 'Taylor swift'. Her music puts me in a good mood no matter what and miss swift herself has been my role model since before I could remember. Taylor Swift I love you.

  • Everything about travel excites me! From deciding where to go, to hoping on the Plane itself, all aspects of going somewhere new fills me with joy. New places bring new foods, faces and sights to see. I hope to blog about my journeys a lot more in the future, so keep you eyes peeled for travel posts.

    • To say that rainy days make me smile would sound too strange. So I shall try to rephrase that. Whenever a rainy day comes around I can't say I am disappointed. It is just such a great excuse to snuggle up with a duvet, hot chocolate and a great read. Or in my case, do nothing. I also seem to find the sound of rain very relaxing. So for these reasons, rainy days are on my 'things that make me smile' list.

I hope this post has spread smiles on to some of you. What has been making you smile lately?
